Michigan’s collection of online casino brands started the new year on the right foot last month by bringing in a total of $153.7 million of revenue, another record-breaking month for the industry.

January’s success resulted in Michigan beating its monthly revenue record for the fourth consecutive month. Back in October, Michigan’s casino operators brought in $140.9 million. Every month since October, it has broken a state revenue record. November brought in $145.3 million, while December resulted in $152.8 million being generated from online casino games. January’s revenue figure of $153,694,393 represents a 0.6% increase month-over-month.

The record-breaking month also brought in a few record-breaking months for operators. DraftKings Casino MI experienced a 0.34% increase from its record-breaking month in December ($26.15 million), bringing its new monthly revenue total to $26.24 million. The Golden Nugget online casino already generated a monthly revenue record for January, bringing in $7.21 million for the month, beating out its previous record of $7.19 million from August 2022. The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians and the Four Winds Casino also put up record-breaking numbers, generating $3.53 million in January, up 13.8% from its previous revenue record set in October 2022. The fourth casino to break its revenue record for the month was FireKeepers, owned by the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi. The online casino brand brought in $1.81 million in total revenue for January, breaking a previous record of $1.76 million set in August 2022.

Top Three Operators

BetMGM, FanDuel, and DraftKings continue to battle it out for the first three spots. BetMGM was unable to be removed from its position and continues to claim the #1 online casino spot in Michigan. January marks the 25th consecutive month where BetMGM has been Michigan’s favorite online casino brand.

FanDuel and DraftKings have been fighting back and forth in Michigan since launching in January 2021. When we compared the past 25 months of data, we discovered that FanDuel claimed the #2 position in fourteen out of the last twenty-five consecutive months. DraftKings has claimed the #2 position just eleven times. For January, FanDuel, partnered with MotorCity Casino, claimed the #2 spot by bringing in $28.9 million in revenue. DraftKings finished second for the month with $26.2 million

January also saw the start of online, multistate poker for Michigan players. PokerStars MI officially launched interstate poker beginning January 1st. Since launching, PokerStars MI added $3.6 million in revenue for the month, bumping 64.6% month-to-month, when compared to December’s revenue of $2.2 million. Interstate poker will continue to grow in popularity this Spring, but total online casino sales will likely begin to fall. Since February’s calender is three days shorter than January, we’ll probably see the record-breaking revenue months for Michigan to come to an end.
