Heading into the 2022 NFL season, many Detroit Lions fans believed the team would have a chance at the NFC North division title this year. In fact, BetMGM reported that the Detroit Lions winning the NFC North division title was the most popular bet on its platform before the season started. Over 61% of bets placed on the site in Michigan were backing the Lions winning.
Unfortunately, the likelihood of that happening now is slim to none. FanDuel and BetMGM both have the team at +4000 to win the NFC North.
With the Lions sitting at 1-4 for the season and coming off a week six bye week, they have quite the challenge ahead on Sunday.
Dak Prescott clear to play in week 7
The Dallas Cowboys starting QB Dak Prescott hasn’t taken the field since week 1 of the NFL season when Prescott fractured his right thumb. Since then, the team had to resort to Cooper Rush to lead the team. Despite losing their star player, the Cowboys have managed to win 4 games and currently have a 4-2 record. According to a short interview with Prescott last week, he believes this could be the week he rejoins his team. Rotoballer also reported that the 29-year-old quarterback participated in a full practice Wednesday.
A deeper look at Detroit’s start to the season
Detroit started this season with some competitive matchups, scoring more points per game than ever before. The team lost by 3 points in their first game, 4 points in their third game, and 3 points in their 4th game. According to the @NFLResearch Twitter account, the team’s 281 combined points and points allowed in the first 4 games was an NFL record. Unfortunately, the team ended their scoring streak during their devastating 29-0 loss to New England during week 5.
Even though the team has seen improvement with its offense, the defense has only gone downhill. The team’s defense is currently ranked 32nd in the league in total defense (428.6 yards per game) and last overall in scoring defense (34.0 points per game).
On paper, it seems the Detroit Lions don’t have much of a chance of pulling off a win on Sunday.
However, the team will be hungry for a win this weekend and likely will have D’Andre Swift back after the 23-year-old sat out during the Seahawks and Patriots games due to a shoulder injury.
Cowboys vs. Lions total odds, Spread, and Moneyline for Sunday’s game
The Cowboys have won 6 out of the last 8 home games against Detroit. On paper, the Cowboy’s defense is even stronger than the Patriot’s. Detroit will have quite the challenge on its hands this Sunday.
All markets are favoring the Cowboys this week. BetRivers has Dallas listed at -315 on the Moneyline, with Detroit as the underdogs at +265. The total score for the game is listed at 47.5 on the BetRivers site. The spread is set at +7 for the Lions.
